Most everyone that plays fantasy football knows you don’t draft your defense and kicker until the last 2 rounds. What if we as league commissioners changed the scoring a bit to make them more relevant and add a little more intrigue to our leagues.
In 2021 the best fantasy kicker was Daniel Carlson of the Las Vegas Raiders who scored on average 10 points per week.
here are the league averages with standard scoring in a 10 team league for 2021:
QB 22 per week
WR 18 per week
RB 17 per week
TE 13 per week
PK 10 per week
DST 8.5 per week
Now I am not suggesting that kickers and defenses score like QB/WR/RB and get drafted high. I am only suggesting boosting them into TE or flex level so the are relevant in the mid rounds of your draft.
Daniel Carlson had these stats in 2021:
0 FG of 0-19 yards
10 FG of 20-29 yards
12 FG of 30-39 yards
12 FG of 40-49 yards
6 FG of 50+ yards
30 XP
with standard scoring he nets 174 points or 10.2 per week.
stat Standard scoring/Suggested scoring
FG 0-19, 3/3
FG 20-29, 3/3
FG 30-39 3/4
FG 40-49 4/5
FG 50+ 5/6
XP 1/2
with the suggested scoring above, Daniel Carlson’s stat line yields 234 points or about 14 per week right on par with the TE position or flex WR/RB making the draftable higher.
with DST, Dallas led in 2021 with the following stats:
360 points against or 21.2 per week
41 SKS
26 INT
8 FR
9 TD (DEF+ST)
0 STY
With standard scoring this resulted in 185 points or 10.9 points per game.

0 10/24
1-6 7/20
7-13 4/16

35+ -4/0
SKS 1/2

STY 2/2
With the suggested scoring above, Dallas’s 2021 stat line yields 272 points or 16 per week on par with a solid flex WR or RB.
Give this a try and adjust your draft strategy accordingly to spice up your league for 2022.
